John Etchemendy is Provost, Emeritus, the Patrick Suppes Family Professor in the School of Humanities and Sciences, and the Denning Family Co-Director of Stanford HAI.

In his 35 years as a Stanford faculty member, Etchemendy has also served as director of the Center for the Study of Language and Information, chair of the Philosophy Department, and senior associate dean for the School of Humanities and Sciences. He earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees in philosophy from University of Nevada, Reno, and his PhD from Stanford.

This methodological paper presents the latest iteration of the Global AI Vibrancy Tool, an interactive suite of visualizations designed to facilitate cross-country comparisons of AI vibrancy across 36 countries, using 42 indicators organized into 8 pillars. The tool offers customizable features that enable users to conduct in-depth country-level comparisons and longitudinal analyses of AI-related metrics.
